A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated §8-12-12a, relating
to authorizing municipalities to permit certain veterans to
park free.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended
by adding thereto a new section, designated §8-12-12a, to read as
follows:
ARTICLE 12. GENERAL AND SPECIFIC POWERS, DUTIES AND ALLIED
RELATIONS OF MUNICIPALITIES, GOVERNING BODIES AND
MUNICIPAL OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES; SUITS AGAINST
MUNICIPALITIES.
§8-12-12a. Power and authority to provide for free parking for
certain veterans.
Every municipality shall have plenary power and authority to provide, by ordinance, for the provision of free parking for
disabled veterans, prisoners of war, recipients of the Purple Heart
Medal, the Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished
Flying Cross, Air Force Cross, Bronze Star and Silver Star medals
and survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor, driving motor vehicles
displaying special registration plates for those veterans as
provided by the provisions of §17A-3-14. Free parking for the
veterans as set forth in this section may not be provided unless it
is specifically authorized by an ordinance adopted by the
municipality.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to allow municipalities to
provide for free parking for certain veterans.
